Winegrowing region Podravje

Winegrowing region Podravje (9650 ha) is situated in the north-east of Slovenia and is divided into two districts

-          Štajerska Slovenija – 8685 ha

-          Prekmurje – 965 ha

Geography: Podravje is characterised by an emphatically hilly terrain, with vineyards situated at an average sea level ranging between 250 and 400 m. 

Soil: The main ground type in the vineyards is carbonate rock and clay is highly suitable for viticulture.  

Climate and weather: the climate has some continental characteristics with an average annual rainfall of about 1000 mm, with hot summers and cold winters. 

Main  varieties: Laški Rizling (Welschriesling), Šipon (Furmint), Renski Rizling (Riesling), Chardonnay, Beli Pinot (Pinot blanc) and others.
